So I was just notified, via email from the ProBoards Support forum, of a new feature that they are rolling out (slowly, over 5 months or so) that will help you get notifications on new posts & threads that take place on the forum. Read below for more information:
What's Changing?
Forums that receive this update will have access to two new notification types, 'new threads' and 'new posts', both at the forum level and the board level. Nothing else is changing, these new options are running through the same system that powers the other notification types. Once the feature is rolled out to your forum, existing users will have the two new notification types both set to 'never'. Once they've created a thread or a post, the 'New Thread' option will automatically update to it's new default of 'Weekly'. Users created after you've received the beta will start with 'New Thread' set to 'weekly', and 'New Post' set to 'never'.
Members can of course modify these notification settings at any time.
When Will My Forum Get These Options?
This roll out has to be done in a very slow, phased manner, as we have to avoid being flagged by the major email providers as spammers due to any spikes in amounts of emails sent. This means that we're rolling this feature out at a rate of about 1/20 of our total forums per week. We may adjust this rate based on internal metrics as we progress. The groupings we are using for this process are completely behind the scenes, so it will be impossible for us to say which groups of forums will receive this feature when.
We thank you in advance for your patience.
Below is a quick video on HOW you would actually be able to use it:
As for right now, oF does NOT have the update YET, but if you go to your forum (if applicable) Profile > Edit Profile > Notifications right at the top of the list, you should be given 2 brand new options to toggle New Thread or New Post notifications for your forum. So far, every single member on your forum will receive this update and there isn't a global disable option of the notifications, each member, however, will have the option to enable or disable the notifications.
